Thousands Join Revlon Run/Walk For Women’s Cancer Research

Thousands of men, women and children turned out to pound the pavement in support of women’s cancer research Saturday as part of the 10th annual Revlon Run/Walk.

This year’s 5K was hosted by actress Halle Berry and “Law and Order’s” Jesse Martin.

The opening ceremony also included a performance by Mandy Moore. Mayor Michael Bloomberg also spoke.

The event helps raise money for women’s cancer research, counseling and outreach programs in the New York area and around the country.

“I think it so important for us to come out in support of and you know against breast cancer,” said a participant. “Just so many people, too many lives, too many young lives, and there’s not enough awareness.”

“It’s really emotional, because we do it in memory of people that we’ve lost in the past and we also meet people that are going through, you know, surviving this,” added another.

“I believe that by me walking that it brings home you know the point that wow, you know, she cares,” added a third.

The run/walk starts in Times Square and ends in Central Park.

Revlon Run/Walks in New York and Los Angeles have raised about $45 million since they started in Los Angeles 13 years ago.
